Tummy Tucks Aren’t Just For Women

However, in today’s modern day, men are getting them too.

The reason why tummy tucks are associated with women is because women often have more body changing life events that affect how the stomach looks and feels.

The biggest one of which is pregnancy and the child bearing process.

Pregnancy can cause the skin in the midriff to over stretch as the baby grows.

Additionally, if pregnancy alone does not cause the stomach to stretch to extreme levels, then weight gain can, either during or after motherhood.

It is also not just about the amount of fat on the stomach, but the skin too.

A tummy tuck procedure can involve removing both the excess fat and excess skin in the stomach region.

It’s 2018 and Men Are Getting Tummy Tucks

Whilst men are not faced with the challenge of recovering from pregnancy, there are other factors that can make them consider a tummy tuck.

One of which is weight loss.

Losing weight, be it quickly or slowly, can have an effect on the stomach whereby the skin stretches, sags and appears loose.

Some men think that they can correct this with diet and exercise.

However, in some cases no amount of healthy eating and exercise can re-elasticate skin.

Therefore, one of the only options to completely ‘fix’ the way the stomach looks is abdominoplasty.

Granted the procedure may not be as extensive, and a lot of men opt only for a mini, or light tummy tuck, where no relocation of their belly button is required.

But a light tummy tuck, is still a tummy tuck.

The procedure usually involves cutting away some excess skin and tissue underneath.

In addition, it is not uncommon for men to undergo liposuction at the same time as a tummy tuck so that their surgeon can re-sculpt how their mid-region looks.

Once the skin and tissue has been removed, liposuction can help fine tune / sculpt the stomach.

A male tummy tuck is one of the most common cosmetic procedures for men. Below is a list of some other most popular surgeries:

1. Tummy Tuck
2. Eyelid Surgery
3. Nose Correction
4. Breast Reduction
5. Liposuction

In 2018, cosmetic surgery is not only more palatable and socially acceptable for women, but also for men too.

A more youthful, toned and sculpted body shape
Boost self confidence and self esteem
Wear tight fitted clothing such as vests, t-shirts and under layers
No longer feel the need to hide under large items of clothing
Whilst there are many benefits, it is important to remember that a tummy tuck is not designed as a method to lose weight.

Most tummy tucks will remove excess skin and some excess tissue after an exercise programme / weight loss.

Additionally, liposuction is a common procedure performed alongside male abdominoplasty.

What should men expect for male tummy tuck surgery?

Men should expect to stay in hospital for up to 2 nights following a tummy tuck. Although this depends on how extensive the surgery is and the required recovery time.

Most procedures take up to two hours to perform and are done so under general anaesthetic.

Incisions are made so that the tissue can be removed from the stomach region and excess skin can be cut away.

The abdominal muscles and surrounding tissue can also be tightened during the procedure and patients should expect a flatter stomach that feels more firm post recovery.
