Cosmetic Surgery Revision Policy

This policy applies to all cosmetic surgery procedures performed at Manchester Private Hospital. In the event of any discrepancies between this policy and other documentation provided by Manchester Private Hospital, the terms of this policy shall prevail.

1. Definition and Expectations

Revision surgery is defined as corrective surgery to address undesired outcomes following cosmetic surgery. While Manchester Private Hospital strives for excellent results, the final outcome cannot be guaranteed. Factors beyond the control of the surgeon and clinical team can affect results. The need for revision surgery does not imply that the initial procedure was unsuccessful or that another surgeon would have achieved a better result.

Key considerations:

  • Perfection, perfect symmetry, and scar-free results are unattainable.
  • Specific outcomes, such as exact bra cup sizes or substantial weight loss, cannot be assured.

2. Factors Influencing Surgical Outcomes

Several factors may impact the final results, including:

  • Healing ability: Affected by smoking, poor diet, medications, and genetics.
  • Scar formation: Predisposition to keloid or hypertrophic scars due to genetics.
  • Skin quality: Impacted by age, weight loss, steroid use, sun exposure, or multiple pregnancies.
  • External factors: Weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or the natural effects of gravity over time.
  • Non-compliance: Failure to follow post-operative instructions, such as wound care, wearing compression garments, maintaining weight, or avoiding early exercise.
  • Blood circulation issues: Can lead to delayed healing and poor scar formation.
  • Obesity or repeated surgeries: May affect healing and outcomes.

3. Revision Request Process

  • Revision requests must be submitted in writing to Manchester Private Hospital within 3 months of the original surgery date.
  • Upon receipt, the patient will be scheduled for a revision consultation with their original surgeon within 3 months.
  • If the surgeon is unavailable, the timeframe will be extended by an additional 3 months.
  • Patients must attend the consultation in person; video consultations will not be considered.
  • If the patient fails to attend the scheduled consultation within the given timeframe, the request will be closed.

4. Revision Surgery Consultation

During the consultation, the surgeon will evaluate:

  • Whether the patient’s expectations were realistic.
  • Whether sufficient healing time (6–12 months) has passed.
  • Whether the outcome was due to surgical factors or natural body changes.
  • Whether the patient adhered to post-operative instructions.

The surgeon will explain the risks and benefits of revision surgery and determine if it is in the patient’s best interest. Revision surgery will not be performed if the risks outweigh the benefits or if tissue quality limits the likelihood of success.

Note: Outcomes of revision surgery are not guaranteed by Manchester Private Hospital or its clinicians.

5. Fee Structure for Revision Procedures

5.1 Minor Revisions Under Local Anaesthetic

Hospital and surgeon fees are typically waived for minor corrections, such as:

  • Addressing “dog ears” or minor irregularities.
  • Excision of a suture sinus.
  • Adjusting one areola to match the other after breast reduction.

5.2 Scar Revisions

Revisions for stretched, thickened, or unsightly scars under local anaesthetic will incur a hospital fee of £500, with surgeon and anaesthetist fees determined at their discretion.

5.3 Revisions Under Sedation or General Anaesthetic

Revisions requiring sedation or general anaesthesia will incur a hospital fee, with additional surgeon and anaesthetist fees determined at their discretion.

Note:

  • Manchester Private Hospital does not reimburse travel, accommodation, or other related expenses, or loss of earnings for the patient or family members for any revision procedure.

6. Timing and Scheduling

  • Revision surgery must take place within 3 months of the revision consultation.
  • If a patient declines a scheduled date, an alternative will be provided within the same 3-month period.
  • If the patient declines a second date, no further dates will be offered, and the revision request will be closed.
  • Note: Once a date is agreed upon, failure to attend will result in no further revision dates being offered, and full fees will apply for any subsequent procedure.

7. Cancellations

7.1 Non-Medical Reasons

Patients who cancel their revision surgery within 2 weeks of the scheduled date for non-medical reasons will not be offered an alternative date.

7.2 Medical Reasons

Patients canceling within 2 weeks of the surgery date for medical reasons must provide valid evidence (e.g., a medical certificate, hospital admission letter, or GP letter). In such cases, a new surgery date will be offered within the next 3 months.

8. Procedures Not Considered Revisions

The following procedures are not considered revisions and will incur standard fees:

  • Redo fat grafting.
  • Reduction of stretched areola post-breast enlargement.
  • Capsular contracture surgery. Breast enlargement following dissatisfaction with an initial breast lift.
  • Replacement of implants for a different size/shape/profile.
  • Additional liposuction due to dissatisfaction with prior results or perceived insufficient fat removal.
  • Tummy tuck redo due to pregnancy, weight gain, or new loose skin.
  • Conversion to a different tummy tuck technique not selected during the initial procedure.
  • Manchester Private Hospital reserves the right to assess and apply this policy on a case-by-case basis.

Note: Manchester Private Hospital will not issue any refunds after the original surgery has been completed.
