Mr. Ashfaq is a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, fully licensed to practice and is on the GMC’s Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery. He is one of the few surgeons in UK to be trained in USA, UK, Switzerland and Pakistan. He has a particular expertise in Breast surgery, Microsurgery, Hand Surgery and recently has developed interest in surgical management of Lymphedema.

Mr. Ashfaq is currently a Consultant at the University Hospital of North Midlands, Stoke on Trent and is currently the only microsurgeon providing Breast reconstruction services there.

Mr. Ashfaq earned his medical Degree from Pakistan. He then trained in Plastic Surgery and worked there for 5 years as a Consultant after acquiring Fellowship in Plastic Surgery. He setup the first Cleft lip program with Smile train in his province. He also worked in Saudi Arabia in its largest Hospital, King Faisal Hospital for Research for three months. He then went to United States for one year for Clinical Microsurgery Fellowship from University of Tennessee, Memphis . He started his Career in UK in Oxford, followed by working as a Fellow in Chelmsford (Saint Andrew Center) in Hand and Breast Microsurgery and finally as a Microsurgery Fellow in Norfolk and Norwich university Teaching hospitals. He also worked as a fellow at Leeds Teaching Hospitals in Breast Microsurgery. He started his first Consultant Job in Bradford Teaching Hospitals and remained there for three years. He finally moved to Stoke on Trent to work there as a Breast Microsurgical and Skin Consultant.

His practice in NHS mainly involves Breast related procedures like augmentation, reduction, implant removal, Tuberous breast and finally Breast reconstruction with Microsurgery. His day to day work involves taking tissue from Tummy, Tummy tuck and using that tissue to reconstruct Breast with complex Microsurgical reconstruction.
He has also done a Fellowship in Cosmetic and Facial Plastic Surgery from Switzerland. There he worked with well known surgeons in the field of Facelift and Cosmetic Breast surgery. He has also visited state of art centers for Plastic surgery in the world including Chang Gung hospital in Taiwan, Ganga hospital in India and MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, USA.

He actively participates in conferences and courses, to keep his knowledge upto date and to provide best evidence based solutions to his patients.

He actively contributions to medical research, authoring numerous scientific papers. He has been invited as a key note speaker and faculty for international courses. He is also actively involved in teaching of juniors especially registrars preparing them for FRCS exam.
